The General Description to Guidelines on Implementation of Medical Practices for Nurse Practitioners under Supervision of Doctors

The Article 24 of Nursing Personnel Act amended and promulgated on August 20, 2014, and revised the regulations about the medical practices implemented by the nurse practitioners and nurses accepting the nurse practitioner training under supervision of the doctors. This guideline is enacted to emphasize on the following items in order to manifest the rage of medical practices under supervision of the doctors and the compliance related matters for implementing of the medical practices in accordance with Paragraph 4 of Article 24:

  1. The definition and ways of supervision. (Article 2)
  2. The medical practices might to be implemented under supervision of the doctors. (Article 3)
  3. The forming members and duties of operation team. (Article 4)
  4. Formulation of the conditions and content of the pre-established specific medical services procedures. (Article 5 & 6)
  5. Implementation of the regulations to the medical orders from the medical practices under supervision. (Article 7)

Guidelines on Implementation of Medical Practices for Nurse Practitioners under Supervision of Doctors

Article 2

Supervision under Paragraph 3, Article 2 in this guideline refers to the nurse practitioners and nurses accepting the nurse practitioner training (“nurse practitioner” and “training nurse practitioner” as below) follow the indications, instructions or urging from the doctors before or in process of implementation of medical practices.

Supervision mentioned in the preceding Paragraph may be under the condition without the doctor being on the scene in person.

Article 3

The medical practices (“medical practices under supervision” as below) that a nurse practitioner and a training nurse practitioner may implement under the supervision of a doctor cover:

  1. Invasive medical treatments
    • Wound management
    • Blood vessels care
    • Examination procedures
    • Other treatments
  2. Non-invasive medical treatments
    • The pre-established specific medical services procedures forms to be issued on behalf of the doctor.
    • Initial comprehensive diagnose from examinations
    • Non-invasive medical treatments
    • Relevant medical consultation

The items of medical practices in the preceding two Sub-paragraphs are in accordance with the detailed rules as the appendix.
