Core Competences

I

Providing Clinical health care

  • Provide healthcare services following the guidelines and regulations of the Nurse Practitioner profession.
  • With a focus on client’s health problems, NPs should implement history taking, physical assessment, differential diagnosis, disease treatment plan, and monitor care outcomes. Additionally, NPs should manage acute or chronic health problems of clients.
  • Provide excellent and safe care based on evidence-based practice.
  • Creating documentation of a client’s needs and health care process.
  • Provide patient-focused care services, including health promotion, disease prevention, reducing suffering, teaching and consultation, managing diseases, maintaining and recovering health.
  • Utilize evidence in clinical reasoning when explaining to patients their laboratory results, diagnosis and disease condition in order to reduce anxiety and confusion.
  • When a client’s medical problems are beyond the scope of practice of the NP, the NP must seek advice from a licensed medical professional or doctor in a timely manner.
  • Use clinical evidence to measure the progress of a client’s treatment outcome and to give clients feedback about their condition.
  • Plan and implement evidence based health promotion and disease prevention measures for clients.
  • Be familiar with laws and ethics and have the ability to intervene when necessary (via negotiation or through a legal representative).

Education

  • Accurately evaluate each client, community and health care team’s learning needs and priorities to provide relevant healthcare education.
  • Utilize appropriate learning theories, create education plans, select proper teaching methods that is best for the client and implement education and evaluation.
  • Seek opportunities for learning and actively participate in professional development of NP.
  • Advocate and carry out life-long learning to upgrade professional knowledge and skills

Collaboration

  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with medical teams to achieve a common health care mission and goal in order to improve quality of care.
  • Through giving support, guidance and education, create a sound working relationship with colleagues, students and other medical professionals in order to enhance the quality of care.

Care quality/

Research

  • Consolidate current best evidenced-based practice, clinical experience, and client’s preferences in order to continue to enhance quality of care in the clinical setting.
  • Collect information regarding NP care outcomes for evaluating effectiveness of NP practice.
  • Use critical thinking to evaluate and improve the quality of care for clients.
  • Use scientific methods to implement NP practice related researches through the process of data collection, analysis, results and discussion.
  • Analyze what contributes to unsafe situations and the different factors that can mitigate risk and reduce the chance of similar situations from occurring.
  • Apply peer review processes to provide feedback with the aim of enhancing care quality and motivate self-growth

Leadership/

Professional development

  • When delivering health care to clients, NPs must be able to explain clearly what their role and responsibilities are to the client.
  • Promote the effectiveness of NP health care to employers, society, general people, lawmakers and policy makers.
  • Be able to bear the responsibility of a leadership role.
  • Promote partnerships with clients, communities, medical professionals and lawmakers through leadership in order to enhance quality of care.
  • Demonstrate superior critical thinking and creativity for leadership.
  • Utilize communication, negotiation and problem solving skills to resolve conflicts.
  • Clearly understand the relationship between cost and healthcare quality and its impact on quality of care.
  • Improve practice competence through continual learning and creative intellectualization.
  • Actively participate in, and lead NP professional organization, create variety of activities or events to facilitate the continued growth of the NP association.
